Hudson, Bellinghausen Score Big in Six-Man Draw
Chuck Hudson and Josh Bellinghausen shook off the morning chill and capitalized on the luck of the draw to score a nice payday in the Six-Hole Draw Member-Guest Tournament.
The tournament format called for the two-man teams in three flights to record their gross scores for each hole. At the completion of the round, tourney director Kenny Valdez drew six holes at random and team scores were then based on those six holes.
Playing in Fight 1, Hudson and Bellinghausen ended up with a 42 to add $75 each to their pro shop accounts. But they didn’t stop there. Hudson hit two CTPs – holes 2 and 6 – for $50 each while Bellinghausen scored a CTP on No. 13 for $50.
Mike Brevig and Dominick Brevig followed in Flight 1 with a 46 for $45 each. There was a tie for third as the teams of Dave Montague-Kevin Custy and John Holzwarth-Barry New came in at 47 for $15 each.
In Flight 2, Mark Jones and Chip Burgett finished at 41 for $67.50 each. Scott Gallagher and Fred Burke (43 for $40.50 each) and Cary Clark and Jeff Downes (45 for $27 each) followed.
Four teams battled it out for the top spot in Flight 3. Kris Keese and Jim Griffith tied at 47 with Jim Chambers and Peter Halvorsen for $54 each, while Todd Rice and Dan Parker tied Mike Colby and Lynn Johnson at 48 for $13.50 each.
Jones (No. 15), Gallagher (No. 17) and Chambers (No. 18) also won CTPs, as did Paul Rogers (No. 3) and Kim Bishop (No. 8). Click here for all results and payouts.
Breakfast Balls: Good to see Kenny Valdez back in action – and nice job by Kenny as tourney director…the smart money is on Jim Chambers on No. 18 – where he has bagged CTPs in consecutive weeks…kudos to Bill Maroney (World Champion New York Knicks) and Darryl Hudspeth (San Antonio Spurs) for managing to play in the same foursome and keep it civil.
Next Up: Two-Man Scramble, Thursday, June 25 at 1 p.m. Entry deadline is Thursday, June 18.
Walkup, Augustine win two-man scramble
Congratulations to Greg Walkup and Mike Augustine for taking first place in our two-man scramble with an impressive net 54 in the Two-Man Team competition. The winners earned $45 each in day money winnings (cash not credit!) and 6 points towards the playoffs.
Tied for second place at net 55 were Scott Gallagher and Charles Hudson and Jeff Junak and Kirk Guldbeck, earning all four players $22.50 and netting each team 4.5 points towards the playoffs.
There was a fourth place tie at 56 between Jorge Aguirre and Todd Rice and Jim Chambers and Ron Hilsenhoff, netting both teams 2.5 playoff points. Sixth place with net 57 and 1 point toward the playoffs went to Joe Bradley and Larry Zehfuss.
The fours 4 CTPs worth $15 each were won by Jeff Junak (#3 and #8), Joe Bradley (#17), and Jim Chambers (#18).
When everything is updated on our website for the 2-man, you can view all the 2-man results and the current points standings at "Tournaments / Leaderboards" and/or at "Tournaments / Results".
NEXT UP: TWO-MAN CHAPMAN ON SUNDAY JUNE 28TH. Entry deadline is June 21st. There are currently only six teams entered!!
Menten Cruises to victory in Individual Stroke Play Tournament
Tommy Menten delivered a commanding performance in the HMGC Individual Stroke Play Tournament, rolling in two front nine birdies on his way to a net 65 and a five shot win over Cary Clark in Flight 1. Menten earned $82.50, while Clark posted a steady net 70 for $49.50. Matt Jones and Andrew Iverson shared third at net 71, collecting $16.50 each.
Flight 2: Downes Outlasts the Field
The spotlight in Flight 2 belonged to Ken Downes and Dave Montague, who were paired together and matched each other shot for shot through the opening nine. Montague stumbled briefly on the back but rallied with an off-the-green birdie on 14. He nearly forced a tie with a birdie attempt on 18, but the cup would not cooperate.
Chris Keese made a late push with a birdie on 15, but two tough holes plus an ill timed downpour stalled the comeback. Downes claimed $75, Montague earned $45, and Keese secured $30.
Flight 3: Wyatt Runs Away with It
Roy Wyatt cruised to a seven stroke victory and pocketed $82.50. The real drama came in the race for second and third. Aaron Slavsky secured second ($49.50) with a clutch par net birdie on 18, while Mike Colby, Bill Boatman, and Charles Hudson shared third, earning $11 each.
Flight 4: Burke Breaks Through
Newcomer David Burke notched his first HMGC win, highlighted by a net 1 birdie on 13 that put him ahead for good. Burke collected $75 for the victory. Jeff Sturgeon claimed second ($45) with a steady bogey on 18, edging out Ken Bushor ($30).
Glory Hole and CTPs
Slavsky hit the glory hole on 18 for $84. Closest to the pin winners were Menten (No. 3), Brian Gurley (No. 8), and Larry Zehfuss (No. 17), each earning $42. Click here for all results.
Attesting
Everyone must attest their scores electronically on their phone. A laptop is available at each event if needed. Plan to meet with your foursome for at least five minutes after the round to confirm scores.
Pace of Play
We do well as a club when the public in front of us plays slowly. We are still working through technical and memory issues with the scans, but our front and back nines were consistent across all groups.
Next Up
The 6 Hole Draw Member Guest Tournament tees off Sunday, June 14. Fan favorite Ken Valdez is expected to make his 2026 debut. A complimentary lunch will follow.
Stableford Features Tight Matches from Start to Finish
All eyes were on the leaderboard from start to finish as players in each flight battled it out in the HMGC Stableford Tournament.
In Flight 1, Greg Walkup drained three birdies on the front and took a commanding lead. Leaderboard watchers noticed that Mike Brevig, in the last group, kept creeping up. He was two down going into 17 with a pop. His net par got him a point heading to 18 where he needed and made par to tie Greg with 35 points each.
In Flight 2, Ken Downes needed to birdie his Glory Hole-winning tee shot on 18 to win the flight, but the putt came up short and his low gross score could not catch Jorge Aguirre. Jorge’s birdie on No. 11 was the difference that gave him 27 points and the win!
In Flight 3, Joe Beck was leading down the stretch, but Marc DesLauriers and Bill Boatman kept coming back. Marc tripped up on 17, but Bill’s net par and birdies on 17 and 18 gave home the come-from- behind one-point win over Joe with 23 points.
Flight 4 was a two-man race. Starting the back nine, Craig Forshner and Mike Boling were neck and neck. They went back and forth, but Craig ran into trouble on 16, and Mike clinched it with a par, net birdie on 18 and his 37 points won by 3.
Attesting: Please do not leave the course before you attest your score electronically. Meet with your foursome to confirm your scores. We have a computer at the grill if your phone runs out of juice.
Pace of Play: In general, the front 9 was not too bad with the last group playing in 2:12. We slowed down a bit on the back. The first recorded time was 4:27 total and the last group was 4:58. About 25% of the foursomes are still not scanning the QR codes so we have some work to do there. Please have one person in each pairing accountable for the scanning.
Mayberry hole-in-one highlights 4-Man 2-Ball Low Net Tournament
Mark Mayberry had a day to remember in last week’s 4-Man, 2-Ball Low Net Tournament as he carded an ace on the No. 8 hole and was also part of the winning team along with Eric Black, Don Strite and Lorenzo Kunze.
Mayberry took home $36 for the CTP on his hole-in-one – but left a few bucks on the table because he had not registered in the HMGC hole-in-one program. Needless to say, Mark has since registered and will now be eligible to collect the next time he jars one. As an FYI, the hole-in-one program is open to all members for just $10.
Mayberry and his teammates came in at 13-under and earned $67.50 apiece for the victory. There was a tie for second at 12-under between the team of Tommy Menten, Jeff Junak, Roy Wyatt and Kenneth Bushor, and the team of Joe Bradley, Todd Rice, Mike Colby and Kim Bishop. Each player on the tied teams won $33.75.
Junak cashed in for the glory hole ($72) on No. 15 and a CTP ($36) on No. 17, while Black hit the CTP ($36) on No. 6.

Breakfast Balls: Vast improvement in our efforts to attest scores after the round. We only had to track down two players. We strongly suggest that every foursome sits down on the patio for a couple of minutes to make sure the paper scorecard and the electronic scorecard match before you take off. We want your score to be correct so you get the payouts you earned! You don’t want someone’s fat finger to take away skins!
Pace of Play: As a group, we are only scanning about 60% of the time, so please make sure that someone in your group is scanning the QR codes on the 1st tee, and 9 and 18 greens. It’s part of the Condition of Play as a Club Member. Our first group kept up with the public golfers, who only played 9 holes in front of us and we played the front in 2:34 and the back in 2:08. That’s very good! The last group times were 2:48 and 2:10 respectively. Each foursome was a few minutes slower than the group in front on the front nine but once the public players left, we did play the back at a great pace!
Flight Winners Shine in Fox Hollow Cup
Mike Faul (Flight 1, net 69), Chuck Hudson (Flight 2, net 71), Bruce Golob (Flight 3, net 71) and Kim Bishop (Flight 4, net 68), ruled the day in the Fox Hollow Cup, with each winning their respective flights in Homestead Men’s Golf Club action at Fox Hollow Golf Course.
The winners earned $90 each in pro shop money, while Faul pocketed another $56 with a CTP on Meadows No. 7 and a skin on Meadows 8. Bishop ($20) picked up three skins, while Hudson ($10) and Golob ($6) took one skin apiece.
Steve Bond won $96 for the glory hole on Meadows 4. In addition to Faul, CTP winners were Jim Chambers ($48 on Canyon No. 6) and Bishop ($48 on Canyon No. 8).
Greg Walkup and Scott Gallagher tied for second in Flight 1 at net 72 for $45 each. There was a three-way tie for second in Flight 2, with Jorge Aquirre, Doug Hodgson and Cary Clark all at net 72 for $30 each. Bill Boatman was second in Flight 3 at net 75 ($54) and Joseph Beck took third with a net 77 ($38). Mike Boling (net 73, $54) was second in Flight 4, followed by Roy Wyatt (net 74, $38).
Breakfast Balls: Kudos to club pro Mike Kramer and his team for hosting a quality event…weather was superb – quite the turnaround from the previous week.
Important Attesting Info: We did pretty good attesting after this first stroke play event. 41 of 48 is not too bad and we need to get to 100%. Whenever you play your ball the entire event, you need to attest your score the day of the event. The attest feature times out at the end of the day and we will get to a point in the not-too-distant future where you will be DQ’d if you do not attest the day of the event. We highly recommend that each foursome reconcile their scores at the restaurant after the event and make sure everyone in your foursome attests.
Pace of Play: Great news here and thanks to everyone! There was only 8 minutes different between the first and 12th groups! Remember that every foursome needs to scan the QR code, it’s part of being a member of the club.
Team Blue “Pops” Team Red to Win Team Match Play Tourney
Captain Fred Morris and Team Blue made the most of 90 pops to score a 9-5 victory over Team Red and Captain Ken Downes in last week’s Team Match Play Tournament at Homestead Golf Course.
The tourney featured 14 two-man teams competing against each other in a better ball format. The players battled strong winds throughout the tourney, with Team Red easing out to an early lead. Team Blue regrouped, however, and closed the gap by the halfway point.
The teams kept it close the rest of the way before Team Blue scored clutch wins in several matches over the final three holes to secure the victory – and $30 each.
Breakfast Balls: Tourney results, with Team Blue taking advantage of those 90 pops, showed GHIN can be the great equalizer…Jerry Arguello pocketed $112 for the glory hole on No. 8, while Peter Halvorsen (No. 3), Tommy Menten (No. 15) and Darryl Hudspeth (No. 18) took home $56 each in closest to the pin earnings…12 players took home $23.38 apiece in skins winnings: Roger Bock and Joseph O’Donnell on No. 1; Randy Dirks and Bill Boatman on No. 7; Cary Clark and Jeff Downes on No. 11, Mike Brevig and Chip Burgett on No. 12; Drew Carrier and Mike Augustine on No. 14; and Jack Morris and Mike Boling on No. 15….HMGC appreciates members Todd Rice and Colin Van Kampen for stepping up to serve on the Handicap Committee under Chairman Fred Morris. This committee will be monitoring such things as the new course handicap, requests for moving to forward tees due to medical issues, pace of play, and member handicap maintenance.
HOWARD Olson after draining a birdie on No. 12ACTION HEATS UP LATE IN ABCD SCRAMBLE
Cool temps made for a chilly start, but the finish was red hot as the Homestead Men's Golf Club launched its 2026 season with the ABCD Scramble at Homestead Golf Course.
The team of Jorge Aguirre, Ken Downes, Gregory Sullivan and Marc DesLauriers shook off the early frost and caught fire down the stretch, making birdie on four of the final five holes to secure the victory with a scorching 18-under par 47.
As millions across the globe accessed the league web site to follow the action live on the tourney leaderboard, the winning foursome blazed to the finish to overcome the steady play of second-place finishers Marc Kouzmanoff, Fred Morris, Chuck Hudson and Joe O'Donnell (48). The winners took home a cool $101 each for the effort, while second place was good for $63 per player.
The play was even more heated for third place, where the team of Scott Gallagher, Kirk Guldbeck, Peter Halvorson and Craig Forshner finished in a tie at 49 with Chip Burgett, Mitchell Krug, Colin Van Kampen and Aaron Caldwell. The tie paid out $30 per player.
Gallagher also cashed in for $120 by hitting the glory hole on No. 13, while Halvorson (No. 2), Bill Boatman (No. 6) and Bill Maroney (No. 17) earned $60 each for closest to the pin honors. The Burgett foursome collected two skins good for $50 per player, and Jim Chambers, Dave Montague, Jerry Arguello and Cris McBride claimed a skin for $25 each.
From the Bunker: Whether you are playing or not, be sure to jump on the league web site to follow the action live on the tournament leaderboard. As was evidenced yesterday, millions of fans can't be wrong! Howard Olson, a surgeon with the putter, dropped a tricky 12-footer on No. 12 for birdie...Weekend started off with Kickoff Banquet on Friday. Nice job by Kenny Valdez managing a fun evening.
Eric Black sets the tone in St. Paddy’s Day Shootout
Eric Black started the Homestead Men’s Golf Club season off in style as he carded an ace, a closest to the pin, two skins and a share of the top spot in his flight in the St. Paddy’s Day Shootout.
Black, who bagged his hole-in-one on the No. 2 hole, was later joined by Colin Van Kampen, whose tee shot found the bottom of the cup on the No. 6 hole. Obviously, those shots also earned them CTP honors on those holes. Congrats, Eric and Colin!
Black also scored in two-man team scramble action, where he and partner Brian Gurley tied for first with Joe Bradley and Connor Hollowell in Flight 1 with a 7-under score of 58. Scott Yates and Dan Gutrich were third at 2-under (63) while Mike Brevig and Colin Van Kampen checked in at 1-under (64).
In Flight 2, Victor Grider and Bill Maroney took the top spot at 3-under (62), with Todd Rice and Clay Weiss close behind at 2-under. Dave Montague and Bob Dunst finished third at even par.
The winners in Flight 3 were Darryl Hudspeth and Drew Carrier with a 4-under 61. Bruce Golob and Rich Bottjer took second with a 66, and William Lambert and Phil Pettigrew followed at 69.
